Holiday at Advent, Christmas or New Year’s Eve

Advent, advent a light is burning… The winter wonderland of Zell am See captivates its visitors during the most beautiful time of the year: at advent, Christmas and around New Year’s Eve.

Our Christmas- & New Years Eve program 2018/19

Traditional & tranquil

The sound of “Silent Night, Holy Night” played on woodwind instruments fills the air; horses are harnessed to their carriages; the mountains are wrapped in a blanket of white and the waters of Lake Zell are crystal clear in front of the hotel. Christmas at the GRAND HOTEL ZELL AM SEE is just around the corner! Enjoy the most beautiful time of the year here at the GRAND HOTEL ZELL AM SEE. We look forward to welcoming you!

The most beautiful time of the year

Traditions to experience

The “Krampus” figures

Advent is a time to take a break and unwind. A time for enjoyment. A time to discover and enjoy the most beautiful facets of Salzburg traditions. Advent traditionally begins with the loud clang of bells and the rattling chains of the “Krampus.” The sight of the Krampus figures running through the streets of Zell am See causes even adult hearts to beat faster.

The Christmas markets

Take an evening walk through romantically lit streets and discover the lovingly decorated Christmas markets. Freshly baked biscuits, traditional treats and home-made mulled wine and punch invite you to linger a while by the outdoor fires. You can also find home-made items and decorative objects to take back home for family and friends.

The advent hike

Anyone wanting to experience Zell am See by night is warmly invited to join the advent hike. Listen to the band playing woodwind renditions of atmospheric advent songs on the terrace of the GRAND HOTEL ZELL AM SEE and then set off on the tranquil evening hike through the peaceful mountain town of Zell am See.

The “Tresterer”

On certain nights in Zell am See you can enjoy the dance of the colourful “Schönperchten” (“Tresterer”). The mystical dance is accompanied by fifes and clarinets and is believed to bring a rich harvest, happiness, health and fertility to peasant families.
